2-26-77 Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA
This Saturday night in Southern California finds the band playing at the 10,000 indoor seat Swing Auditorium in the Los Angeles suburb known as San Bernardino. The band had been working on sessions for what would become Terrapin Station not far away in Van Nuys.
The guys (and gal) hit the stage with a bang by starting with the first live version of the epic Terrapin Station. While not quite as developed as later versions, this one is very impressive. The show then gets into a more "normal" groove with a hot New Minglewood Blues. They Love Each Other is once again standard fare for the time but the version itself is above average. The first live version of Estimated Prophet is next and this one is absolutely manic. Sugaree is nice but hardly a version of the year while Mama Tried and Deal, once again, are above average. However, it is the closing first set jam of Playing In The Band->The Wheel->Playing In The Band that stand out with the Terrapin, Estimated and Mama Tried.
The second set starts off in an average fasion with Samson and Delilah, and Tennesse Jed. Thankfully, the set picks up with The Music Never Stopped dispite a blown section. The following Help On The Way/Slipknot->Franklin's Tower takes the show to the next level. Unfortunately, the show falls into auto pilot from here on out with Promised Land, Eyes Of The World->Dancin' In The Streets->Around and Around with the encore of U.S. Blues.
Show highlights: Terrapin Station, Estimated Prophet, Mama Tried, Playing In the Band->The Wheel->Playing In the Band, The Music Never Stopped, Help On The Way/Slipknot->Franklin's Tower.
