1985 found the band celebrating their 20th Anniversary and proved to be a year with many hot shows although Jerry was having health problems as well as his voice not being in the best of shape. Some shows also suffer from sound effects added by sound mixer Dan Healy.
The band starts this first set with a cover of The Beatles' Day Tripper which leads to a strong West L.A. Fadeaway into a great C.C. Rider. The following Dire Wolf is very nice and fits in well with the Summer weather. Beat It On Down The Line was a bit of a rarity and it's nice to hear the band pull off one of it's earliest songs before starting Row Jimmy. Row Jimmy is nice and gives off a good laid back groove. The cowboy medley of Me And My Uncle->Big River is quite good with Me And My Uncle also being one of the band's earliest songs. Big Railroad Blues suffers from Jerry's raspy voice. The Jack Straw->Might As Well is a nice way to end the first set although Jerry's voice pretty much totals Might As Well again.
Gimmie Some Lovin' is alright but the band's over reliance on a song that was never played as well by the band as it was by Steve Winwood. The China Cat Sunflower->I Know You Rider is tasty. The Playing In The Band that comes out of China Cat Sunflower->I Know You Rider is fantastic and shows how great the band was a taking a much played song and changing it from night to night. The Drums is tribal with the Space travels the cosmos before giving way to The Wheel. The Wheel is upbeat and driven before returning to Playing In The Band which goes into a sweet China Doll. Sugar Magnolia comes out of the closing strains of China Doll with Bob getting really excited and jumping off of Brent's Leslie speaker during the break. The show ends with a nice Touch Of Grey encore.
